When I was approached by AIR Sports Network, I wasn't getting any support from anyone.
I had just finished college and was smoking and drinking too often and really did not know where I was heading.
I had bits of work come up here and there, but it was not consistent. Really I felt I was just plodding along my way, slowly getting by but not progressing as quickly or as much as I could or should have been. When AIR Sports Network approached me in Croydon town centre, I was like “Wow”, why didn't I know of this project before. They seemed to be doing great work and it seemed like something I’d really like to get involved in.
When I went along they made my time there fun and made me feel so worthwhile as a person again! After a while the opportunity of the Network Rail PTS course came up and I was really up for that, it meant no smoking as they drug tested you regularly, but to be honest by then I was ready for this. I met with the staff often who supported me through the process and with Turning Point also offering me support I passed after completing the training, I am now waiting for my work placement. Within a very short time of being with AIR Sports Network I believe I am doing something very positive and something that I really want to do, my long-term objective is to be a sub contractor and really get stuck into this industry. If you come across AIR Sports Network or see their posters, call them, go along and see them, they really are the truth, they don't make promises they cannot keep. This is how a service should really be. I want to thank AIR Sports Network and Turning Point who believed in me and gave me the opportunity to excel.”
